Principal’s Note

I, as administrative head of Basanti Devi College, am glad to see that the third issue of ‘Academia: Basanti Devi College’ bearing ISSN tag is ready for publication. This issue is enriched with contributory papers given by different professors, scholars and researchers presented primarily in the different webinars organized by our college. Extensive research work of the resource persons has made this journal a very good source of future reference for researchers as these papers are outcome of scholarly work. The deliberations of the learned contributors have always been a source of inspiration to our students.

The college will continue to publish more volumes in the future. I am sure overwhelming response from paper contributors will continue, which would enrich the readers .The papers will be peer reviewed as before and the academic work of our own teaching faculty as well as that from other institutes will feature in forthcoming volumes. This journal will provide a more comprehensive picture of rich academic activity in the days to come.

I wish this journal a great success.

Editorial

The third issue of ‘Academia: Basanti Devi College’ is not as well structured as the previous one. The style is individualistic and some of the articles are just abstracts of the contributor’s learned deliberations. There is a reason behind that. The 2021 issue is actually the proceedings of the webinars held in our college and lectures of our faculty members in webinars /seminars organized elsewhere. There is also a very short article from a student, which is featured here not only because it had won the first prize in an international essay writing competition, but because it gives us a clue on how to teach.

One and a half years ago from 16th March 2020 to be precise, all our normal college activities suddenly ceased due to the world wide invasion of novel coronavirus. All the things we used to do, like lecturing in the class, explaining concepts on the blackboard, demonstrating experiments in the laboratory, checking practical copies ,organizing seminars in the college, setting examination papers, screeched into an abrupt halt. We had to rebuild ourselves from a scratch to cope with the new normal. We had to teach ourselves the radically different, technology driven way of teaching! Reconnecting with our students through the internet, preparing digital study material, checking scripts online, converting our seminars into webinars. Oh, what an uphill task it was! But it was also our only means of surviving the pandemic, and at this juncture I feel all of us should breathe a thank you note to the internet for making that possible.

Especially the webinars became an academician’s delight, free from the obligation of physical proximity we got resource persons from near and far to share their expertise with us. This dissemination of knowledge is that which makes our present issue so precious!
